Friendly Friday: My Music boxes

My music boxes each tell a story.

About me.

This one, the girl and the bear, is from my Grandma.  She said it looked like me and my Uncle's bear Goldie. And it did/does. The tune:

Playmate, come out and play with me
And bring your dolly 3
Climb up my apple tree
Slide down my rainbow
Into my cellar door
And we’ll be jolly friends
Forever more, more, more, more!
Playmate, I cannot play with you
My dolly has the flu
Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo
Ain’t got no rainbow
Ain’t got no cellar door
But we’ll be jolly friends
Forever more, more, more, more
Say, say oh playmate
Come out and play with me
We’ll have a tea party
Under my cherry tree
Dance on my back porch
Roll on my grassy floor
And we’ll be jolly friends
Forever more, more, more, more!
Playmate, I cannot play with you
My dolly has the flu
Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo
Ain’t got no back porch
Ain’t got no grassy floor
But we’ll be jolly friends
Forever more, more, more, more
Say, say oh playmate
Come out and play with me
We’ll sing so happily
Swing from my willow tree
Jump through my sprinkler
Hopscotch to number 4
And we’ll be jolly friends
Forever more, more, more, more!
Playmate, I cannot play with you
My dolly has the flu
Boo hoo hoo hoo hoo hoo
Ain’t got no sprinkler
Ain’t got no number 4
But we’ll be jolly friends
Forever more, more, more, more

These 2 each have a separate story.  The right is the first time I was an Angel in the Moscow Ballet Nutcracker. One day this past spring, the cat knocked it over. :~( A very good friend at Church fixed it for me. The left is the second time I was an angel. They both play different tunes from the Nutcracker.

These 3 are for left: When I was a Variation, middle & left: When I was a mouse, (2x). I danced 5 times in the nutcracker, The Moscow Ballet Nutcracker!I loved doing it. The 2 nutcracker boxes play the same tune as the Angel music box on the left. The other plays "You are my sunshine". My Mom used to sing me that every day before I took a nap.

This is from my "adopted" "aunt', a really good friend of the family. When ever I play it, I think of her. I do not know the name of the tune, but it is really familiar.

This is my absolutely favorite one. (The worst picture is of my favorite music box). It doesn't look like much but I could sit and listen to the unknown tune for hours. It was in a piano, but the piano broke. I saved this part, I love it so much.

What music makes you think of your past?

Clean the quilt that has sat in the laundry room for forever and a day.

Now enough boring stuff.

Blogging days theme.....

Munching Monday-recipes I have tried
Tutorial Tuesday-something I've made in the way of crafts
Wacky Wednesday-one odd thing I did/will do
Thoughtful Thursday-something I am studying or learning about
Friendly Friday-1 thing about me....quirks....like the fact I like to wear hats....

Where am I?

Où est-elle? Est-elle dans une boîte de crayon? Non. Est-elle sur la table? Non.

Where is she? Is she in a crayon box? No. Is she on the table? Non. Is she hanging from the ceiling? No. Would she be in a computer? Is she reading chemistry and dancing with a goat? Did you look in a doll house? I bet she might be in a tutu eating pickles.  Or maybe she went to the Carribeans. I know where she is! She is doing her school work like a good French girl. Good job she!

A.k.a.

How a homeschooler passes time!

:~)

Thanks to Google Translate!

UPDATE:

The literal translation from French to English.

Where is she? Is a pencil box? Is it not on the table? No. She is suspended from the ceiling? Is not it a computer? Is reading the chemistry and dance with a goat? Did you look in a doll house? I bet she could be eating in a few pickles tutu. Or maybe she went to the Caribbean. I know where it is! She does her homework like a good girl French. Good job it!

Skirts and dresses

This is an amazingly hard subject to type about.

Sometime this summer, I made a decision to wear skirts and dresses.

I feel modest.

I feel feminine.

I feel right.

I don't like the way pants fit. They aren't comfy.

I feel like I am freer to move around.

I take ballet. I wear a leotard and tights.

I don't mind wearing it, but I feel better when I wear the costume or skirt.

For swimming, I wear a wetsuit. I don't like being in a 1 piece swim suit. I don't feel modest.

This is a personal preference.

My Mom and sisters wear shorts.

Not all homeschoolers wear skirts.

It is my preference and I am satisfied with it.

I have been thought as Amish.

But despite that, I still wear skirts.

I feel closer to God sometimes.

1 Peter 3:2-4
When they see the purity and reverence of your lives. Your beauty should not come from outward adornment, such as braided hair and the wearing of gold jewelry and fine clothes. Instead, it should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

That is my aim, I may stand out sometimes, and wearing a skirt reminds me of that.

What is your choice? I want to hear all sides about this.

My waterlogged goals, and bible verse tutorial

I had them written out on a pretty piece of paper. And they were ruined when a glass of water tipped over.

:~(

Thank goodness for blogging, I still have them!

Bible Verse tutorial:
  • sharpie
  • wood pieces (I used left over rectangles from a previous project. They were 3x5in.)

  • painters tape
  • a Bible verse
I wrote 1 letter on each piece of board. When I had the verse written out, I took the painters tape and made a loop of tape over my finger and attached it to my letter. And did the same for the rest. Nails would work too, but the painters tape does not leave holes or marks on the wall.

Be joyful always. 1 Thessalonians 5:16.

I put them by the washing machine.

What verse would you choose?

Goals for the week

The coats straightened feels marvelous.

My sisters' room, does not........ I see her cleaning it in the future.....

Anyways, My Goals:

Write a schedule; what we will do everyday..... I had one but it was too complicated.....

Start school, organize books, look over Math book, and finish my week to week planning.

Clean the laundry room.

Clean the quilt that has sat in the laundry room for forever and a day.

Memorize Ephesians 3:14-21

Switch the toys, refresh them.

Make:
Finish my skirt
Remake my old night gown
Crochet premie hats
Make a pillow spacer so my 2nd to littlest sister doesn't keep bonking her head

Get on a dish washing schedule.......(nervous laugh) I promised my Mom while she was on bed-rest the dishes would stay cleaned...... but it didn't happen. Now it will! :~)

Prepare for a friend coming.

Clean our sun-room/porch.

Put up more bible verses. (I'll show you a pic of one I put up, and how to do it, later.... in my free time....haha.

And call a Sunday school teacher.

What are your goals??? :~D

Clutter: Coat baskets

Halfway done.

I have 2 empty baskets.

I am currently surrounded by coats and accessories!

Now to put them away.

:~P

Update

They are put away, now I am tackling more of the office area.

Clutter

I think everyone despises that word.

Everyone has clutter.

Admit it!

I have been non stop busy to keep clutter down.

I never noticed how much I despise it until I started cleaning the house to get ready for my baby sister.

Between toys, laundry, books, and supplies, and more it just becomes one big mess!

Note: We have been caught up on laundry, the whole house. Now we just have to find a place to store laundry baskets! ;~)

My goals have been to cut back on clutter, in fact a lot of people have that goal.

I recently cleaned my room; I share with my 2 year old sister.

I cleared out half a garbage bag of stuff under my dresser and one corner. Not much can fit under that dresser.

The library was cleared of 2 bags of junk we will never use for crafts.

It is tough for me to toss, I get sentimentally attached to things.

I have a hug box of papers I am attached to. I will never get rid of it, too many memories.

Anyways, clutter is a big issue, and I was enjoying a sweet clean house.....

........then the clutter monster creeps in on little cat feet.
It sits looking
over house and garage
on silent haunches
and then moves on. (Carl Sandburg [my version] :~)

Not.

It does not.

I repeat does NOT leave.

Unless I put it away.

Everyone complains, I never have time.

Get off the computer.

Surprise your Mom, Dad, Grandparents, Spouse, Roommate, Children, Friends, and do something about it!

The stairs in our house is the worst offender, piano bench comes a close second followed by everything else...

I did something about it. I cleared everything off except the stair baskets.

We have the M&L's room basket, with baby T things.

And we have the S&G basket.

We also have a rule. And it is working.

When you go up at nap-time or bedtime the basket must be empty and everything put away.

That was a week ago and I was the worst offender! (I didn't put the extra sweater away).

My next project.... hmm....

The two 36" baskets filled and over flowing with coats no one fits, uses at the moment, and becomes socks and stuff dumping ground. It won't make the computer/office room cleaner but it will help! :~)

What will you tackle?

(I am just as busy as you! :~)

1-2-3-4

1-2-3-4

A secret code?
A plot against the free world?
A monster???

No, a recipe for my favorite cake.

My sister turned it in to a sing-song rhyme.

She keeps it in her head for "dad's emergency cake emergency's"!

1 cup of butter
2 cups of sugar
3 cups of flower FLOUR :~) (No that was not on purpose!)
4 eggs

Mix together. Bake for 20 min. @ 350 degrees Fahrenheit.

Voila, delicious pound cake!

My 3 goals for today

I told you yesterday's.

Here are today's.

  1. Take a nap this afternoon.
  2. Take my little sister to the library to show her off.
  3. Housework, a.k.a. dishes and miscellaneous bags to sort.
At least I don't have to much work to do.

Well technically I have schoolwork. I don't think I'll tackle it today. :~) I technically start any week now, but with the baby, I might wait. We'll see. :~)

I do want to go to the library before we have fines........

The librarians are our adopted grandparents. :~)

We love them, and my sisters constantly take flowers and pictures to them. Especially flowers.

Do you adopt your librarians as family?

My 3 goals to survive

Yesterday I was flopped on the couch all day, a stomach ache. I felt miserable.

Thank goodness for Grandma. :~D

Anyways my 3 goals yesterday was
  1. Rest
  2. Eat
  3. Hold my little sister when she comes home from the hospital
Being a mini mom always throws me off. I was energy-less.

On Monday, between running the house, watching my sisters, extra watching at Grandma's house in the process of renovation AND getting to dance on time, I was exhausted.

Exhausted didn't even begin to describe it.

Today I feel marvelous.

All because of a Grandma.

I could kiss her feet.

My only complaint for the day is my tongue hurts from too hot tea.

:~D

Sister

My baby sister was born today. Sweetest thing in the world. It dawned on me she is a person, not the one born before, but a NEW person! :~)

She is the sweetest thing.

Psalm 127:3
Children are a heritage from the Lord, offspring a reward from him.

May my sister grow to Love, Listen, and Learn, from her heavenly Father, God!

I love you, sweet little sister!! :~)

<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3<3

My 3 spiritual goals

This past week, I fasted. Not from food.....but from email. Emailing is MY Facebook. I needed a break. I used it very sparingly this week, hoping for not at all.....but I did have important things to use it for, e.g. teaching Sunday school. I had 3 goals:
  1. Servant leadership....still in the working progress but getting better at it!
  2. Deprivation....Deprive myself from something, e.g. my email.
  3. Umbrella....An umbrella of [blank].....I used patience, and kindness.
Servant leadership:

Proverbs 15:13
A happy hear makes the face cheerful, but heartache crushes the spirit.

I needed to find happiness, though I was aiming for joy!

Altum Gadium - Deep joy

It is a command of sorts from Paul,

1 Thessalonians 5:16
Be joyful always.

I started making a list of 1000 things over the course of the week, that make me smile. I got to about 160 on day 3. On day 4, I forgot.

I have only lost my temper a few times this week! Praise the Lord!

Ephesians 4:2
Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.

I am also smiling more....it was a little thought provoking last Sunday, I believe, when one of my little sisters asked why I never smile!

Deprivation:

Romans 12:1-2
Therefore, I urge you, brothers, in view of God's mercy, to offer your bodies as living sacrifices, holy and pleasing to God-this is you spiritual act of worship.
Do not conform any longer to the patterns of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind. Then you will be able to test and approve what God's will is-his good, pleasing, and perfect will.

That is pretty self explanatory.

And that is what I did. Gave up the ways of the world (email), and I feel transformed by renewing my mind.

Umbrella:

I prayed every, if almost every, night and still will, that God will make an umbrella of the Fruits of the spirits, over me.

Galatians 5:22-23a
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control.

This week has helped in molding my character.....

My journey has just begun!

Brownies, the BEST EVER

I made some brownies last night. Unfortunately, they are gone.....

They are the best homemade brownies. EVER

They were... :~)

So good, I memorized the recipe, while I made them.

Lets see,
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of sugar
  • 1 stick (half cup) of butter (melted)
Mix them together.
  • 1/2 cup of flour
  •  dash of vanilla (didn't have this on hand, but you might want it)
  • 3 tablespoons of cocoa powder
Mix that with the rest of the ingredients.
Put chocolate chips to make it taste......more chocolatey!
Use semi sweet AND milk chocolate chips, if you are adventurous!
For extreme adventurous use chocolate chips and crushed pretzels.
After you try pretzels on top, you'll never want nuts again... they are boring.....

Bake at 350 Fahrenheit, for 30 minutes. I used a pie pan.

When they are done, sit down with, a good book, tea, and the WHOLE pan!

If the brownies were detected by a sibling/children/spouse, share.

Maybe ;~D

School year is coming!

School year is coming. Public schoolers face it in dread, homeschoolers rejoice; unless they did school all summer! :~) We got our school books this week. I was technically going to start this week, just doing Latin and French. That said, I've been busy. Never got it done. My goal is next week!

This is my first year of high school. Feels like I just started in 3rd or something. My one sister is in 1st grade! She has her new books, and is ready to go. Another is in preschool. How did they get to be SO big? This school year will be very different from previous years. I will have a little sister soon. Any day in fact. I have never done school with a new born, 3-6 month sister, yes. But NEVER one this little.

Homeschooling Myths I want to clear up!
1. Many people think homeschoolers get a pass to do NOTHING. That is not true. We do just as much work. This year I have enough books to choke a horse. :~)
2. They also think they wear skirts NON-STOP. I do, 95% of the time, my choice, my Mom and sisters where shorts more often.
3. Homeschooler's live in the middle of NOWHERE. Nope, I live 20 minutes away form at least 2, maybe 3, Walmart's! I live in a small town. Not exactly the wilderness.
4. This myth is NONSENSE. Homeschooler's do school in jammies! Well it is not exactly nonsense. We do, occasionally. :~) I don't. I can't be in my jammies that long. Especially since A) I do it in the afternoon, and B) I can't go to the library or anything.

Don't dread school, it is the best thing since sliced bread!!
