#42 - Silver Bells

City sidewalks busy sidewalks
Dressed in holiday style

In the air
There's a feeling
Of Christmas

Children laughing
People passing
Meeting smile after smile
And on ev'ry street corner you'll hear

Silver bells, silver bells
It's Christmas time in the city
Ring a ling hear them sing
Soon it will be Christmas day

Strings of street lights
Even stop lights
Blink a bright red and green
As the shoppers rush
Home with their treasures

Hear the snow crunch
See the kids bunch
This is Santa's big scene
And above all this bustle
You'll hear:

Silver bells, silver bells
It's Christmas time in the city
Ring-a-ling, hear them sing
Soon it will be Christmas day

This song comes to mind when ever we drive through Downtown and look at the Christmas lights. The sparkling lampposts and the decorated buildings twinkle. They always bring a smile to the little girls. :)

#43 - Rocking Around the Christmas Tree

Rocking around the Christmas tree
At the Christmas party hop
Mistletoe hung where you can see
Every couple tries to stop
Rocking around the Christmas tree,
Let the Christmas spirit ring
Later we'll have some pumpkin pie
And we'll do some caroling.

You will get a sentimental
Feeling when you hear
Voices singing let's be jolly,

Deck the halls, with boughs of holly
Rocking around the Christmas tree,
Have a happy holiday
Everyone dancing merrily
In the new old-fashioned way.

I had so much fun dancing to this song last year! I choreographed this with the 50's character swing style. It was one of the best Christmas dances I've ever done!

#44 - Jingle Bell Rock

Jingle bell jingle bell jingle bell rock
Jingle bell swing and jingle bells ring

Snowing and blowing up bushels of fun
Now the jingle hop has begun

Jingle bell jingle bell jingle bell rock
Jingle bells chime in jingle bell time
Dancing and prancing in jingle bell square
In the frosty air
What a bright time
It's the right time to rock the night away

Jingle bell time is a swell time
To go gliding in a one horse sleigh
Giddy up jingle horse pick up your feet
Jingle around the clock
Mix and a-mingle in the jingling feet
That's the jingle bell
That's the jingle bell
That's the jingle bell rock

When I hear this song I always think of the time I was listening to Christmas music on the radio. I was sorting laundry and when this song came on I started dancing to it. Just me, the laundry and the radio. :)

#45 - White Christmas

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
Just like the ones I used to know
Where the tree tops glisten
And children listen
To hear sleigh bells in the snow

I'm dreaming of a white Christmas
With every Christmas card I write
May your days be merry and bright
And may all
Your Christmases be white

One of the Christmas songs that makes you feel all cozy and happy inside. :~) Irving Berlin did a wonderful job when he wrote this song. Last year we were able to see this on stage and it was quite enjoyable.

#46 - The First Noel

The first Noel, the angel did say,
Was to certain poor shepherds in fields as they lay;
In fields where they lay keeping their sheep,
On a cold winter's night that was so deep.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

They looked up and saw a star
Shining in the the East, beyond them far;
And to the earth it gave great light,
And so it continued both day and night.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

And by the light of that same star,
Three wise men came from country far;
To seek for a King was their intent,
And to follow the star wherever it went.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

This star drew night to the northwest,
O'er Bethlehem it took its rest;
And there it did both stop and stay,
Right over the place where Jesus lay.
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

Then entered in those wise men three,
Full reverently upon their knee;
And offered there in his presence,
Their gold, and myrrh, and frankincense
Noel, Noel, Noel, Noel,
Born is the King of Israel.

When ever I hear this song I always think of my Mom. I can remember sitting on her lap one Christmas singing this with her. She told me how much she loved this song. Therefore, I dedicate this song to you Mom! :~)

Science Class

This week my sisters are talking about nuts and seeds for science.

(We've been using The Beginning Naturalist by Gale Lawerence.)

Yesterday we went for a walk on the Erie Canal to look for seeds and nuts.

When all of a sudden we found a viking hat!!!!! Its perfect for studying nuts and seeds. :)

#47 - Hark the Herald Angels Sing

Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

Peace on earth and mercy mild
God and sinners reconciled

Joyful all ye nations rise
Join the triumph of the skies
With angelic host proclaim
Christ is born in Bethlehem
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

Christ by highest heaven adored
Christ, the everlasting Lord
Late in time behold Him come
Offspring of a Virgin's womb

Veiled in flesh the Godhead see
Hail the incarnate deity
Pleased as man with man to dwell
Jesus, our Emmanuel
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

Hail, the heaven born Prince of Peace
Hail, the Son of Righteousness
Light and life to all He brings
Risen with healing in His wings

Mild He lays His glory by
Born that man no more may die
Born to raise the sons of earth
Born to give them second birth
Hark! The herald angels sing
Glory to the newborn King

What is Christmas without Charlie Brown's Christmas? Every Christmas our family watches the movie and I can't help my join in singing this. As I said what is Christmas without Charlie Brown singing "Hark the Herald Angels Sing"?

#48 - Winter Wonderland

Sleigh bells ring, are you listening,
In the lane, snow is glistening
A beautiful sight,
We're happy tonight,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

Gone away is the bluebird,
Here to stay is a new bird
He sings a love song,
As we go along,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
Then pretend that he is Parson Brown
He'll say: Are you married?
We'll say: No, man,
But you can do the job
When you're in town.

Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

In the meadow we can build a snowman,
And pretend that he's a circus clown.
We'll have lots of fun with mister snowman,
Until the other kids knock him down.

Later on, we'll conspire,
As we dream by the fire
To face unafraid,
The plans that we've made,
Walking in a winter wonderland.

When ever we have snow in our fair town during winter, which quite often, I sing this on walks through the town. The snow crunching under my feet and the crisp cold air makes this a perfect song to sing.

#49 - Let it Snow

Oh the weather outside is frightful
But the fire is so delightful
And since we've no place to go
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!!

It doesn't show signs of stopping
And I've bought some corn for popping
The lights are turned way down low
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When we finally kiss goodnight
How I'll hate going out in the storm!
But if you'll really hold me tight
All the way home I'll be warm

The fire is slowly dying
And, my dear, we're still good byeing
But as long as you love me so
Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!

When I was 7, I participated in a Christmas dance recital. I did a tap routine with another little girl to this song. I was so adorable, if I do say so myself. I watched my teacher the whole time and rarely looked at the audience.

#50 - Jingle Bells

Dashing through the snow
In a one-horse open sleigh
O'er the fields we go
Laughing all the way
Bells on bobtail ring
Making spirits bright
What fun it is to ride and sing
A sleighing song tonight!
(chorus)
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way.
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
Jingle bells, jingle bells,
Jingle all the way;
Oh! what fun it is to ride
In a one-horse open sleigh.
This song is special to me as I remember singing this with my Great Grandpa. We found a little pop-up book with this song and we sang it together. It is one of my clearest memories of him before he passed away when I was six.
