At The Lake

Nothing like a day at the lake to relive memories, see your old campsite, and make new memories. To enjoy fellowship with people from your home church who also attend your camping church, and the general camaraderie that follows.

Vacaaaaaaaaaaaation! Beautiful Blessings - 8/19/16

Vacaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaation! Squee!!! I can hardly wait! I'm soooooooo looking forward to it! Well, mostly. John leaves on Sunday for college for eons and eons (aka, the semester) and we leave for camping tomorrow. On the bright side, I'm excited to have a chance to wear clothes that AREN'T work clothes, yet when I packed, I couldn't remember how to! XD I'm an interesting conundrum ;) 

~ friends to talk to....and yell at....laugh with....cry to....and whatever emotional state I'm in

~ smiley face wars with said friends

~ packing up books to read, and activities to enjoy that I've been wanting to do!

~ happily enjoying the fact I've had my blog for 4 years, and haven't given up on it yet!

~ looking forward to seeing what adventures happen the next couple weeks....I can use some fun relaxing adventures! (if those two ideas go together lol!)

Now that I've rambled, I'm off to go pack some more....whoop-de-doo! lol!!!

~ Our last day at the beach required something of great size for Winslow's last sand creation of the year!

Beautiful Blessings - 7/31/15

~ Climbing Watch Hill! Tis my favorite "mountain" to climb!

~ Seeing the mountains from another view!

~ Spending my friend John's birthday on the mountain, at the beach, by the waterfalls, and next to the campfire!

~ The cow Heidi made! And then seeing my sandcastle looks like the old Blimey Cow logo!

~ Visiting Buttermilk falls! In Long Lake, not Ithaca...people werent too clever when it came to naming things ;~)

My Mom has all the fun...

...so I decided today Im doing a Winslow blog post ;~)

Winslow and I, along with everyone else of course, went to see "Fievel Goes West" at the movie theater. We were beyond thrilled when we realized Jimmy Stewart did the voice of Wiley Burp! :~D

I made him a sandcastle!

This evening Winslow and I set off on a trail Ive seen many a time yet never went down!

He agreed with me that the moss reminds me of Ireland! I love the beautiful mosses that grow around here.

We even found a little wetland on our wee trail!

He graciously reenaced a pose my favorite teddy bear, Lilac, did when I was a little girl.

And then we enjoyed the sunset together!

~ Hearing the first loon(s) on Lake Abanakee while we were by our campfire last night.

~ Going to the beach for the first time this trip.

~ Picking fresh blueberries! I can never decided if sun-warmed blueberries or shade-cooled blueberries taste best....I shall have to keep testing them ;~)

~ Delicious pickled things from home! Pickled eggs, pickled beets, pickled radishes, and sauerkraut!

~ Watching chipmunks scurry around and chase each other.

~ Going to the library in hopes of finding a good book or three!

~ Playing Wig Out, Go Fish, Bug Bingo, and Memory games this morning.

~ Having the last half of Dad's famous delicious pancakes! (I got up too late to have a full pancake lol!!!)

Science Saturday: Hawks & Mushrooms!

(I took this picture on a hike with my best friend while we were camping :~D ) 

A few marginally thought-provoking things of interest: 

• Hawks are not hawks. (Just don't confuse them with crows like I did when I was kid.) Hawks are actually a name for a raptor that eats other birds. They are part of the genus Accipiter. What we think of as Hawks are from the genus Buteo.
• True Hawks are the Goshawks, Cooper's Hawks, and Sharp-Shinned Hawks. The raptors we call "Hawks" are Broad-winged, Red-tailed, Red-shouldered, and Rough-legged Hawks.
• In UK, they call the "Hawks" buzzards. Considering we are already confused with the Hawks that aren't Hawks, and we call Vultures, buzzards, let's just stick with the name Hawks.
• Mushrooms are reproduced by spores. (Just read about this in my Biology textbook). The underside of the Mushroom cap have tiny gills. Each gill has tiny pores where the microscopic spores are produced and blow away in the wind.
• Mushrooms are decomposers. They break down the wood, leaves, dirt, etc. by which they reside.
• The Indian Pipes we talked about a few weeks ago are often considered Mushrooms, but they are not. Indian Pipes are flowers.

I do have a few highlights that I want to share with you!

We built a tepee! Well actually we built 3 big ones and few small ones.

That was our first big one! ^^^ It was nice and roomy, but full of flaws.

So we built this one with the sticks from the first one.

I made another one for taller people, but we never got a picture of it.

I love this picture of my family! <3 Each of our personalities are showing!

We also got to visit a cave called Kunjamuk (pronounced cage-munk).

Doesn't it look like something from the LOTR books? I'm reading those while I'm up here.  :~) My sisters on the other hand associated it with The Secret Hideout with the Sugar Creek Gang.

Yesterday we got to see the high peaks of the ADK from an overlook!!!! I could stare at the mountains for hours...........sigh................

So pretty! So if you want to see Mt. Marcy, the highest mountain in New York, it's the middle bump on the farthest right cluster of mountains!

Aren't they sweet? They are getting too big!
