Hats for the Holidays! Day 3

A hat from Rochester NY! Ive posted this before when I was doing the Throwback Tuesday!

I love the pom-poms....they make the hat special!

Throwback Tuesday: By the Christmas Tree!

Sometimes during the Christmas season, you need something special to wear to a fancy fete! A dress like this always does the trick. Especially if it has roses and sparkles! It's also a good dress for a bit of dancing around the Christmas tree or under a star-filled sky! This is one of my favorite vintage dresses as it twirls deliciously! Heehee!! 

Throwback Tuesday: Mother Ginger....continued!!

So last year, I posted Mother Ginger!! :~D 

As today marks exactly one year since I posted the post, I thought I'd share a couple pictures from this year's Mother Ginger! Same costume, but updated as now you can see how it works! 

Mother Ginger is a doll from the Nutcracker Ballet! She has little children hiding under her skirt...

It's a lot of fun to do this dance....except when they all get goofy and start tickling your legs!! *shudder*

All in all, dancing our mini-Nutcracker has to be one of the highlights of our Christmas season! T-Tot is Clara, and the Russian doll; Lil' G is the Chinese doll and the Spanish doll; L-Jo is our Arabian doll; and I'm the Sugar Plum Fairy, the French doll, the Arabian doll, and Mother Ginger!!

Throwback Tuesday: For a Winter's Evening

 For caroling, or a sleigh ride,

Throwback Tuesday: Dressed for the Holiday Social Season

With Thanksgiving only a couple days away, the start of the holiday season is here! 

This is a perfect outfit if you are going: 

to a dinner, 

the opera, 

a performance of Nutcracker ballet, 

a classy vintage movie theater to watch a Christmas classic such as  

It's a Wonderful Life or The Christmas Carol,

being a hostess for Thanksgiving,

attending a party,

going to the symphony,

enjoying a delightful tea,

or just dressing up for fun this holiday season!

Timeless yet elegant for any social event this holiday season!

**disclaimer** I wouldn't recommend wearing this for one of those ugly holiday sweater contest parties. It just doesn't seem appropriate..... ;~)

This is a fun vintage "vinter" hat! It was made by the Rose Co. in Rochester N.Y.! I can't seem to find much about this company, but I have seen things made by them before. Hats are such a fun way to learn about the history of fashion!

Throwback Tuesday: Purple Dresses!

When my Mom was in college, she needed a dress, so my Aunt made her one! I love wearing this dress, as it's pretty, very comfy, and is made with love! It's also one of my favorite purple dresses....

.........my other I wore when I dressed up as Lizzie Bennett. 

Purple is such a pretty color!

Throwback Tuesday: Ribbons down my back

This reminds me of the song, Ribbons Down My Back from Hello Dolly!

I'll be wearing ribbons down my back this summer

Throwback Tuesday: A 50's Dress

This has always been one of my favorite 50's dresses. Unfortunately I outgrew it. (This is a picture from a couple years ago). The silver hat is one of my favorite pillbox hats. It fits just right. And I'm not sure if you can see, but I also have Eiffel Tower earrings on from my Dad's cousin who went to France!

Throwback Tuesday: A Vintage Hat

This is one of my favorite vintage hats! I've always loved the simplicity of a black hat with the sweet touch of netting. It's really a beautiful hat! I wore this one to work today, as my job entails that I wear my vintage hat collection to work. I don't mind, it's kinda fun to wear my vintage hats! 

Hats are truly timeless, classic, and chic!

Throwback Tuesday - Changes, yet more fun!

Throwback Tuesday is going to have a few changes!

I usually pick a person from the past and dress up as them. It can take anywhere from 30 minutes to 3 hours trying to find someone, get the picture, and post it. As I've done it for about 10 months now, it's been getting harder for me to find people to dress up as.......so.........

When I have someone to dress up as, I shall do that, but if not.....

Y'all will get to see some of the vintage clothes I have!

Still a "blast from the past" and just as fun!

Today I want to share with you a super cute outfit!

This dress and matching coat were a gift from my employers. They couldn't bear to cut it up, so they gave it to me. It fits like a glove, and goes perfectly with pearls of my Mom's and a hat from a friend! It is made by "Best & Co." from Fifth Avenue sometime during the 60's. This company was terminated around 1971, so this is truly a keep-sake.

Throwback Tuesday: Princess Leia

So, I must admit, I've only see the original Star Wars......and that was several years ago! ;~D

Princess Leia: I don't know who you are or where you came from, but from now on you'll do as I tell you, okay? 

I really liked it though! :~D

I was fascinated with her hair for weeks......

I even did a post with her before!! Heehee! You have to read it!

Okay, so my cinnamon buns aren't as big...........but hey! ;~D

Julia Child is a famous chef! She learned to love cooking, and it became her career, her passion, and her life! She wrote a book called Mastering the Art of French Cooking that debuted in 1961! She wrote many other fascinating cookbooks in subsequent years!

Throwback Tuesday: Agent 99 (Barbara Feldon)

I absolutely LOVE the Get Smart tv series from the late 60's! The guy who played Maxwell Smart Secret Agent 86, shares the same birthday as I do! And 99 is one of the best characters ever! Sweet, silly, sarcastic, sassy, and special! :~D

Maxwell Smart: [reads message from the secret compartment in the Chiefs desk] In case anything happens to me, contact my superior: Zebra 642. We're gonna have to look this up in the Chief's special codebooks
# 99: [pushes button to reveal the codebooks behind fake books on bookshelf] Zebra, that's the blue book.
Maxwell Smart: [Carlton reaches for the blue book] The blue book is the one with the green cover.
Carlson: Since when does a blue book have a green cover?

Throwback Tuesday: Kay Thompson

 

Kay Thompson, (picture from the musical Funny Face ), was a charming actress, author, and singer. I absolutely LOVE her in Funny Face! Her comedic expressions and classic style of acting make it highly enjoyable! She, Fred Astaire and Audrey Hepburn were great co-stars. She is also the author of the Eloise books!

Throwback Tuesday: Amy Carmichael

Amy Carmichael is one of the most well-known missionaries. She worked in the city of Belfast for a while, starting a Church for "shawlies". "Shawlies" were women/girls who worked in the mills who didn't have hats to wear to Church. After serving in Ireland for many years, she heard the testimony of Hudson Taylor, which convinced her of her call to be a missionary. She joined the Church missionary society, and served in a few places for short stints of time. Finally she went to India. She served in India for 55 years.

Throwback Tuesday: Lucille Ball

Lucille Ball, beloved from America's favorite show, I Love Lucy! Everyone loves her quirky style of acting that's still enjoyable to this day! She was the first woman to run a major television studio, Desilu, which produced many popular shows including Star Trek and Mission: Impossible. Desilu eventually merged with Paramount Pictures in 1967.

The above clip from one of the I Love Lucy episodes, has to be my favorite scene ever!
