People of Jordan: Jackie

Jackie has lived here in Jordan for 14 years. She admitted she's a country girl, so she loves the small town feel. She enjoys that it's friendlier, and feels safer She feels very privileged to be able to work at the library. She has worked at the library for 6 or 7 years. She loves that it feels like a great big family because of all the people that come into the library. She admitted she's always very happy to see anyone from my family. :~)

People of Jordan: Shirley

Shirley has lived here in Jordan for 49 years. She enjoys how peaceful and quiet it is, with lots of things for people to do. She likes that there aren't any malls or busy streets. She has done many things for the community, and the library.She ran the Fall Festival for 29 years, she's been on the board of Trustees for the library, she was a director at the library for a couple years, and she's the President of the Friends of the Library. She remembers when the library was were the Village Hall is today. For story hour they would move the firetruck out of the Village Hall, put cardboard on the ground and the they'd be ready for story hour. She also taught at Ramsdell Elementary. She taught 2nd grade for a while, and then she taught Kindergarten. She taught school for 26 years, and loved it! She always enjoyed the kids in her class, and missed teaching as soon as she retired. It's always nice to meet people who love teaching! :)

People of Jordan: George and Melanie

George and Melanie have lived here in Jordan for 21 years. George is the Town Justice and has been in village politics for 17 or 18 years. They were on their way in the library as I was leaving. They love having a library, post office, grocery store and the bank in walking distance.They love having the small things, like safe sidewalks. They enjoy being in a small town with great neighbors with a sense of community. They both agree that the events like the Memorial day and the Fall Festival make our town unique.

People of Jordan: Cathy

Cathy has lived here for 42 years. She likes the fact that you know everybody. She enjoys that the community has a tendency of being able to work together well. For example all different aspects of the community come together for the Fall Festival. She also works at the library a couple times a week. There is quite a variety of people that come in. The phrase it takes all kinds of people to make the world go round is quite true. Many people come in to find out more about the canal history. She is very interested with the local history. Many of the house in town were converted into houses. Her's was a mule barn, then a while after that a school master lived there. She also has a sign from the malt shop that used to be where the dance studio is. History is rich and and exciting in our fair town!

People of Jordan: Peggy and Mary Beth

Mary Beth, Peggy, and their sister Nona (not pictured) run a business called A Few Good Bananas. They don't sell them here in Jordan, but this is where they make their creations. They re-purpose fabric and old clothes to make one-of-kind hats, ear warmers, mittens, fingerless gloves and accessories made from upcycled materials. Right now they are going to try making stylish dog jackets. 

They sell their creations in many places including Ithaca, and Rochester.

(I love the label!) They've had their business for almost 4 years now. It's family run so when ever family or friends are in the area, they stop in to help out.

They've met a lot of cool people at the various places they've sold their creations. As Peggy said, it's almost like having fun playing all day!

People of Jordan: Danielle

Danielle grew up in this area, but moved away for a time. Eventually she decided to move back and she's been here for 16 years now. She enjoys living here with her family. She works with her lovely business associate, Linda, at Da Li Hodge Podge. She enjoys being here in the country with the beautiful green grassy areas. There isn't as much congestion either. She enjoys the State Parks, the Finger Lakes, Wine country, and of course the beautiful small towns like ours. Danielle loves the sense of community, with the fact you can carry on lovely conversations with people you meet on the sidewalk or in the store. It's very comfortable here and she is happy to be here.

People of Jordan: Sam and Mary Ann

Sam and his wife, Maryanne have lived here for 2 years. They love living here in Jordan. They moved "south" from the Tug Hill Plateau and they've noticed a significant change in the weather. They love their neighbors as they were nicely welcomed into the neighborhood. Sam enjoys walking on the canal trail and the fact they can walk around town. They enjoy walking to the Post Office, Tops, and the Library in the warmer months. Mary Ann loves the library just as much as Sam does. In fact they wrote a letter to the Editor of the Post Standard to show their appreciation. They love the friendly people and the friendly kitty at the library. Sam and Maryanne are very glad to call, Jordan, home.

People of Jordan: Karen, Bill, Mary and Kelly

These lovely people donate 3 hours of their week for the weekly Clothing Ministry that is held in the old parsonage of the First Baptist Church of Jordan N.Y on Thursdays. They started last February, on February 14th to be precise. They giveaway clothes, household items, personal hygiene items and food. Everything is local. If you donate something it goes to the community. They raise money for the ministry quite often, in fact they are getting ready to have a "Bunny Breakfast" on the 19th of April. All the proceeds will be donated to the Clothing Ministry. They have a wonderful ministry to the community and they are glad to be blessing the community.

People of Jordan: Bill

"Don't put it off till tomorrow, when you can do it today."

Bill has lived here for 62 years. He likes Jordan's location, as it is near Auburn, Syracuse, Lake Ontario and it's in the Finger lakes. He said that Jordan has changed immensely, especially in the past 25 years. He told me about some of Jordan's past, and I learned a few things I never knew! There used to be hall for Saturday night dances, the firefighters would flood an area near Ramsdell Elementary for ice skating, and there were all sorts of shops! A dentist, optometrist, pharmacy and more!

People of Jordan: Winslow

Now you may be thinking..........whoa........wait a minute. Winslow is not a people. And you are absolutely correct. But Booker Bramley isn't a people either, nor is Millie! Due to life, I am not able to get a picture for today. So I decided to post a picture of Winslow. Last week we got at least 17 inches of snow, probably more, in one day. That's what I love about Jordan: by the next day everything was plowed and the sidewalks were cleared! If you haven't figured it out already, everybody loves Jordan! Even Winslow!

People of Jordan: Gary

Gary, or as I call him, Mr. Gary is our next door neighbor. I ran into him at the post office today. He's lived here for 20 years now. He likes that the town is quiet, but yet still has excitement. For example the Fall Festival and other fun community events, like the Memorial Day Parade. He loves history, and especially the history of the Erie Canal. He is part of the Jordan Historical Association. He often volunteers in the Museum at the library and the old Lock 51 house, that has been moved to our little fair grounds. I have to say, Mr. Gary is one of the nicest people on our street. He's helped us out in a pinch, several times. Once he gave my Mom and sister a ride, when we had a flat tire. He's even accepted our kitties. Ansel, as you know, is the cat burglar. Ansel has broken into his house several times, has been found sleeping on Mr. Gary's boat (he's been a lifetime member of the Onondaga Yacht club), and his kitchen table. Ansel also likes to sleep in his yard in the summer. Mr. Gary is a wonderful part of our community.

People of Jordan: Jeffery, Kameron and Kyler

Jeffery, Kameron, and Kyler were having fun sledding and snowboarding at sledding hill. They've lived here for 5 years. They enjoy the nice quiet little town and the schools. They have a farm, a few dogs and they're in the process of animal adoption. Kyler is one of the Erie Canal Cloggers, that I've mentioned before here. Kameron recently joined the Volunteer Fire Department and is enjoying that.

People of Jordan: Erin and Gordan

Gordan has lived here for 20 years and Erin for 15. Gordan enjoys being able to hunt and fish out here in the country. They never really called it the country until their first date. They decided to go see a movie and on the drive to the movie theater, they saw a pig meandering down the road. He was just munching on food he found on the side of the road. They enjoy our small town because it's safe for kids. They also enjoy having the sidewalks plowed in the winter. They really like the fall festival, because it's just a lot of fun! I must agree, the fall festival is a lot of fun!

People of Jordan: Linda

As I was walking down the sidewalk, I met Linda. Linda has lived in our fair village for 20 years. She loves the small town atmosphere, too. She also enjoys having family around. As I was giving her my blog address, she said to me, "If you don't know, I'm the Halloween lady." "The Halloween lady?" I asked puzzled. "Yes, I almost always decorate my house for Halloween. In fact, one day when I was working in my garden, a dad and his daughter walked by. A little while later they walked by again, and the girl asked me, 'Are you the Halloween lady?' I told her I was. 'Are you going to decorate again?' she asked. I told her I was, 'Good!' the girl replied."

People of Jordan: John

John has lived here in Jordan all of his life, excluding the times he served in the Military. He is very proud of being a Veteran, and he is very proud of his Irish, German, French and Native American roots. He has many family members in this area which is nice. He's sad to see some of the younger people leave the village, though. As common, he loves our quiet, rural village.

People of Jordan: Father DeLorenzo

Father DeLorenzo is the Pastor of our local Catholic Church. He's lived here for 9 years. He told me that he "loves the simple, less complicated, more peaceful life here." He also has noticed that "there is a spirit of friendliness in the community." and that "The local churches often work together collecting food for the food pantry." When I asked him what advice he'd give about life he gathered his thoughts for a moment and said, "Remember God and His love for your. Take God seriously and if you do that, you will be happy, truly happy."

People of Jordan: Diane

Diane grew up in our fair village. She now owns a little antique store called "Dark Horse Antiques". She became a nurse, and during that time she always collected antiques. When she retired from nursing, she decided to open a little antique store here in Jordan. She told me that many of her costumers are from out of town, usually people interested in the canal history. She loves the history behind the canal and enjoys being here. I must say, it's lovely to have her here! :~)

People of Jordan: David and Ethan

I found David and Ethan shoveling some ice chunks. David said they enjoy having sidewalks to use. They have lived here for about 9 years and they love how everything is nearby and peacefully quiet. And Grandma only lives a few miles away! (I think that's Ethan's favorite part ;~)

People of Jordan: Linda

Linda moved to Jordan in 1976. She worked at the Village Hall for 26 years and retired in December. During that time she's done many things in this little town, including being on the pool committee, dancing with the Erie Canal Cloggers, being a Den Mom, coach for Little League, and much more. Currently she runs a little shop called Da Li Hodge Podge. She also loves the feel of a small community. She loves the fact that people care about people, and that by far is the best thing of all!

People of Jordan: William

William has lived here for 24 years. He enjoys the small town atmosphere and the canal history that surrounds our little town.He works at our Lyons National Bank, and has been working there since 2001. His only complaint for living a minute away from work is that the car is never warm by the time he reaches work in the winter, and it's never cool enough in the summer. ;~)
